Formatting Tables
In terms of formatting tables, you work with two broad categories of tools: layout and design. The Layout commands appear on the Table Tools Layout tab. These tools include commands that enable you to insert columns and rows, merge and split cells, and change the text alignment in a cell or cells. Figure 8.5 shows the Layout tab.
In the design tools are commands related to the use of table styles (many table styles are built into Word) and shading and borders settings. The Draw Borders group is also part of the Design tab of the Table Tools and is shown in Figure 8.6.
