This chapter describes the flow of the critical operations for ASM diskgroups and files. It also describes the key interactions between the ASM and relational database management system (RDBMS) instances. This chapter refers to the persistent data structures described in Chapter 10, "ASM Persistent Data Structures."
ASM Instance Discovery
The first time that an RDBMS instance tries to access an ASM file, it needs to establish its connection to the local ASM instance.
