The open and standards-based web services are gaining more and more attention in the software industry because they provide a way for heterogeneous systems to interoperate by sharing data over the Internet. In Oracle Database 10g, web service features are provided to facilitate publishing database data, metadata, and PL/SQL computing resources as web services. Additionally, the web service features allow database users to consume external web services within the database server.
