Not only is Oracle 10g more feature rich, it is easier to manage with more tools to help the Oracle DBA “set it and forget it.” Part I of this book covers the basics of the Oracle architecture and lays the foundation for deploying a successful Oracle infrastructure by giving practical advice for a new installation or upgrading from a previous release of Oracle. To provide a good foundation for the Oracle 10g software, server hardware and operating system configuration issues are covered in the relevant sections.
