Managing Standby Databases
Database and server downtime can be meticulously planned or totally unplanned, but as far as business dollars are concerned, any type of downtime is expensive. Planned downtime can be controlled and reduced by database technology features such as rolling upgrades or out-of-place patching. Unplanned downtime, however, means employees are idle during this time and corporate web sites are unreachable, which results in revenue loss as well as prestige loss.
