9. Virtualization Management
First there were computers. Data centers soon needed computer management software, especially as the number of computers grew beyond a handful. As it matured, that software enabled people to manage the entire life cycle of computers and their workloads: asset tracking, operating system (OS) provisioning, OS configuration, OS modification, OS redeployment, application provisioning and configuration, workload assignment and deployment, and resource utilization. Figure 9.1 shows the simplicity of this model.
