When we interviewed several companies, including those mentioned in this book, we discerned that the focus has shifted from efficient to responsive systems and technologies. In fact, managing stretch goals, positioning to act on new opportunities, and being responsive to market fluctuations were the top concerns. In this chapter, we will talk about two representative software companies radically different in scope, mission, and size but both providing cutting-edge solutions to enable customers to manage operational risk and meet stretch goals.
