Introduction

Communication scholarship has been criticized for the lack of research on listening, despite continued focus on engagement, integration of ideas, and relationship management. Public diplomacy has suffered from the same criticism, although some recent studies have attempted to conceptualize listening from the public diplomacy perspective (see Di Martino, 2020b).
