With your Pre fully charged (see Chapter 2 for details on how to get that accomplished, by the way), your Palm Profile set up (also in Chapter 2),your shoelaces tied, and your seatbelt firmly fastened, what's next? At this point, it's time to master how to navigate all the nooks and crannies that make up the many parts of webOS. For new users, this is usually the part where you'll experience your fair share of "oohs" and "aahs" as you see your Pre do things that you've never, ever seen a phone do before.

Even for users of older Palm devices running Palm OS or Windows Mobile, this is a really critical chapter because you'll find that a lot has changed. When Palm created webOS, it thoroughly rethought even the most fundamental aspects of how a phone should work. The result is a clean, elegant, easy-to-use interface that you'll absolutely love. There is a bit of a learning curve, and my goal here is to make that curve as gentle of a slope as possible.

In this chapter, you'll see how to open applications and navigate between them, find out the difference between the Quick Launch toolbar and an "activity card," and discover how to control almost everything your Pre can do with just a few swipes of your finger.
