Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh is best known for his colorful landscapes; haunting, psychologically charged self-portraits; and thick, swirling brushstrokes. After facing a series of personal rejections and disappointments in life, van Gogh found his true calling as a painter. Despite his temperamental persona and failing physical and mental health, van Gogh didn’t let criticism or self-doubt stop him from pursuing his passion.
