As a term relating to art, photorealism has been around since the 1970s. It centers mostly on the work of artists like Chuck Close, John Baeder, Richard Estes, and several others. Photorealism distinguishes itself from other forms of realism, such as the nineteenth-century realist and naturalist movements, in that it focuses on the specific interpretation of reality as seen through the lens of the camera.
