Penetration testing has been a standard security control for more than a decade, and has become, to an extent, a ‘routine’ requirement for organisations that require evidence of testing to comply with their regulatory or industry sector standards (the payment card industry PCI DSS standard for example). In response to this, a wide range of penetration test service providers has emerged within the information security marketplace. Some of these focus very closely on vulnerability and security testing, while others include test capability as one of many offerings within their portfolio.
