Achieving equity and performance from diversity

How did we get where we are currently, and what represents a realistic and promising way forward? Diversity training has been a dominant approach. This chapter investigates the history of that training in the United States and provides an overview of knowledge gained from that history and this book’s integration of research-based evidence. We identify often-hidden practices that impede diversity and inclusion and suggest how to counter them by concentrating on on-the-job behavior and organizational practices.
