Chapter 3. Oakland
A Turning Point
As the first journey into the process of creating my work, I’ll use the painting “Oakland” (Figure 3.1). It is a great place to start because “Oakland” was a turning point in the way that I approach my work.

The Oakland Fox Theater is a beautifully ornate structure that sits as a testament to greater times.
