Until this chapter in the book, Spring applications were written using Java. This chapter teaches you how to write Spring applications using Kotlin. Kotlin is a JVM programming language that my favorite software company, JetBrains (the same company that develops IntelliJ IDEA), started working on in 2011. As an IntelliJ IDEA fan since 2005, I cannot imagine JetBrains producing something that is not absolutely great. So, clearly, Kotlin had to be another awesome product.
