In the landscape of modern AI-powered software engineering, development ecosystems are not merely collections of tools but complex socio-technical systems where technological components and human/AI-agent interactions intersect. A defining feature of these mature ecosystems is the concept of shared fate, a deliberate design principle where components are interconnected and interdependent. In a system characterized by shared fate, the actions taken regarding one component by one team—whether a security patch, a library update, or an architectural deviation—can impact the entire system. While this coupling enables collective success and economies of scale, it also creates the potential for cascading failures.
