6 Analysis of Inverter Circuits
Inverters convert DC to AC in order to feed power to an AC load from a DC system at some desired voltage and frequency [1–4]. Since the output from an inverter is AC, it can be used in AC drives such as three-phase induction motors or synchronous motors [5]. Also, pulse-width modulated power amplifiers consist of thyristor-bridge inverters [6].
Some of the applications of an inverter are as follows:
Inverter-fed AC motors in industries
Stand-by power supplies
Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for important equipments, for example, computers
Power supplies at frequencies other than conventional supply frequencies for special applications such as aircraft, railways, and communication lines
