The general form of an electric motor drive system or the so-called variable speed drive (VSD), which is shown in Fig. 12.1, consists of the following main parts:
• Electrical power supply
• Power electronics converter
• Electric motor
• Mechanical load
• Control unit
• Control observer and measuring unit
