7.1 Introduction

The basic elements of transient stability assessment of a classically modeled power system, using the transient energy function method, have been presented in Chapter 5. The key step is the determination of the transient energy margin ΔV (equation (5.18)) and its normalized value ΔVn (equation (5.19)). Stability information is obtained from the value of ΔV or ΔVn. The procedure for obtaining δV and ΔVn is outlined in the flowchart in Fig. 7.1. The computational issues involved are presented in Chapters 5 and 6.
