Overview
The prior chapter presented some probability models that can represent discrete data. The focus of this chapter is on one essential model widely applicable to continuous data: the so-called normal model. In addition to usefully representing many real-world phenomena, the normal model underlies a large number of traditional inferential techniques and can help us to understand standard approaches to inference.
