Chapter 7: The Normal Model
Continuous Data and Probability
Solving Cumulative Probability Problems
Solving Inverse Cumulative Problems
Checking Data for the Suitability of a Normal Model
Generating Pseudo-Random Normal Data
Overview
The prior chapter presented some probability models that can represent discrete data. The focus of this chapter is on one essential model widely applicable to continuous data: the normal model. In addition to usefully representing many real-world phenomena, the normal model underlies many traditional inferential techniques and can help us understand standard approaches to inference.
