Software architecture, as a discipline, has been around for half a century. The concept was introduced in the 1960s, drawing inspiration from the architecture of buildings, which involved developing blueprints that formulated designs and specifications of building architecture before any construction ever began. A blueprint of a building provides an engineering design of the functional aspects of the building—the floor space layout with schematics and measurements of each building artifact (for example, doors, windows, rooms, bathrooms, and staircases).
