So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Downloading
To get started, first download the most recent stable version of Scala.[9] Get the appropriate version for the platform you’re on.
The examples in this book were tested with the following version of Scala:

In addition to Scala, you’ll need the JDK version 1.6 or newer. Take a moment to check which version of Java is installed and active on your system.
