The Pricing Software Development Lifecycle
There are six distinct stages in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) (see Figure 7.13). These stages are common to all types of software but, because of its multifaceted nature, the pricing SDLC can be more complicated and difficult to navigate.
While many pricing projects are initiated by C-level executives, they directly affect Pricing and Sales, and often involve Marketing, Finance, IT, and even Human Resources. Here are the common questions frequently asked by these functions' representatives:
- Pricing and Marketing. What functionality will I have with this software? Will it replace or augment current pricing systems? Will the software make my job harder or obsolete?
- Sales. Is this system easy to use? How will it help me determine the right price? How can it match my market experience? Does this system take into consideration the nuances of my accounts and my territory? Why should I trust my commission-based income to software?
- Finance. Is the information accurate and complete? How does the system tie into our financial records? How will we make profit improvements?
- IT. Why do I need to install and support a new system? What legacy systems will be affected by the new pricing software, and how will they need to be reconfigured? Does the software create data redundancy? ...
