The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has made health insurance available to millions of uninsured ­Americans. It provides substantial subsidies to ­uninsured individuals and small business firms, and contains provisions to lower healthcare costs in the long run. The ACA also has numerous provisions that prohibit insurers from issuing policies with abusive provisions that harm consumers. The ACA is complex and beyond the scope of this text to discuss in detail.
