DAX is extremely good at analyzing data over time. This is done using a series of DAX functions that simplify analysis that use dates as a core aspect of the analytics. This kind of analysis is called Time Intelligence.

For time intelligence to work, you will need a date dimension. A date dimension is a table that contains an uninterrupted range of dates that begins at least at the earliest date, and that ends with a date at least equal to the final date in the data that you wish to analyze over time. ...
