Implementing a Database

Chapter 1 detailed how to efficiently install the Oracle binaries. After you've installed the Oracle software, the next logical task is creating a database. There are two standard ways for creating Oracle databases:

Use the Database Configuration Assistant (dbca) utility
Run a CREATE DATABASE statement from SQL*Plus

Oracle's dbca utility has a graphical interface from which you can configure and create databases. This visual tool is easy to use and has a very intuitive interface. If you need to create a development database and get going quickly, then this tool is more than adequate. Having said that, ...
