Compilers
A compiler is a program that reads a text in a high-level language and
translates it into the binary code of some 'target' microprocessor. The
compiler does a job analogous to that of a symbolic assembler, but it is
a more complicated program, because a high-level language is more
remote from binary than is assembly code.
A compiler is generally obliged to use fairly inflexible means of
trans-
lation, and the binary code it generates for a given algorithm is never as
fast or as compact as it would be if written by an experienced and
strongly motivated human programmer. In the case of a good, well
designed compile ...
