Chapter 7. Scalability and performance

Scalability goes hand in hand with performance. A scalable system is a system that can maintain its performance characteristics as the load increases1. Cloud makes massive resource pools available to service developers. In theory, anyone can design and deploy global-scale services in the cloud without significant upfront investments. Service developers have this unprecedented opportunity to start small, to grow rapidly, and to become big. Scalability is the cornerstone of such systems. In this chapter, I’ll discuss scalability and performance and introduce some key concepts, tools, and skills you need to master to design scalable Service Fabric applications.
