E-mail Notifier
In this project, we combine a 12V tungsten filament lamp with the Internet capabilities of the BeagleBone Black to make an e-mail notifier that flashes the lamp when a new e-mail is received (see Figure 11-1).

The lamp used is of the type that is used for the indicator lights of a car. Although these are gradually being superseded by LEDs, these light bulbs are still easily found.
The project is built using a Prototyping Cape, and all the components are soldered into place to make the project more durable than using breadboard.
