Laying the Foundation: Projects

There are several alternative approaches to the lecture-based method. These include the project-based learning approach. Before getting into the details of that specific approach (Chapter 4), in this chapter, some background information is provided on projects. Projects support a human need (Frame 2003). Evidences of early projects can be found in structures such as Stonehenge, the Egyptian pyramids, and the Great Wall of China. Construction of shelters, water systems, and roads are also examples of projects. The construction industry is one of the oldest project-based industries.
