The Current and Future State

Strategy is aspirational in nature. It outlines where the company seeks to go as well as what position it seeks to occupy in the market. Successfully arriving at the strategic destination requires a sound understanding of the current position of the company as well as the distance to be travelled to reach the desired position. This is accomplished by determining the current state, the desired future state, and, finally, the gaps that separate. Chapter 7 introduces this method for understanding how to reach the desired strategic destination.
