Creating the Work Breakdown Structure

A work breakdown structure (WBS) is a hierarchical chart that helps you brainstorm activities that need to be completed for a project. Figure 3.1 shows a generic WBS for a learning event—in this case, course development. (You’ll learn about a more detailed template for learning event development in chapter 4.) Your chart will usually be more detailed than this one and may include additional activities that are required for your specific business need. You create a WBS from your organization’s course development standard and your experiences. Your experiences are as valuable as any model would be.
