HEALTH AND SAFETY
Goal
Modelmaking has the potential to expose students to hazardous materials, processes, and equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, mechanical machinery, sharp tools, dust, various materials and chemicals, noise, and fire hazards. Increasingly, artists and designers are being made aware of the hidden dangers and long-term chronic effects of some of the ingredients in artist materials. It is a goal of this book to make people think twice about what they are doing when modelmaking, in terms of their own safety and that of those around them. This chapter can serve only as a basic overview of health and safety for the following reasons:
