We're not all geniuses. If you know exactly what needs to be done to install some application or service, you can create the Puppet manifest right away. Often, though, you need to experiment a little bit first, to find out what packages you need to install, what config files need to be edited, and so on. You can record your shell session using the script command and then work from the session file to develop the Puppet manifest, and this can be very helpful.
But wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a tool that could read your session file ...
