3    REDD’s path to date

This chapter is an overview of REDD’s path to date in terms of (a) UN (UNFCCC and UN-REDD) level programming, (b) major partner initiatives including the World Bank’s FCPF and other donor technical support, (c) big conservation and development NGO activities, (d) the private sector, and (e) opponents of REDD. Major issues as they have evolved are touched upon to provide contextual information about how REDD has gotten to where it has, and where it is going from here (see Figure 2.3). These will be further developed in later chapters.
