INEVITABLY, EVERY year an e-mail gets passed around touting the Stella Awards.1 Supposedly, the Stella Awards are a collection of the most frivolous lawsuits for the previous 12 months and are named after the woman (Stella) who successfully sued McDonald’s when she spilled hot coffee on herself. Every year the “awards” take on a life of their own with many bogus stories,2 a number of which are repeated year after year.
