Chapter 5. Using Other Basic Applications

Your computer operating system includes a number of utilities and applications that enable you to start working (and playing) as soon as your Mac is up and running. The included software ranges from simple desk accessories, such as Calculator and Stickies, to media players, such as QuickTime and DVD player. This chapter looks at those basic applications as well as several others.

Calculator

The Mac's system Calculator, shown in Figure 5.1, is located in the Applications folder. You can toggle between basic mode and advanced mode, which supports trigonometry functions and exponents.

The Calculator in default mode offers basic arithmetic functions.
