Chapter 11. Monitoring and Feedback Loops

In the rapidly evolving landscape of machine learning and graph-based systems, ensuring consistent performance and adaptability is a paramount concern. Monitoring and feedback loops play a central role in addressing these challenges by providing the mechanisms to observe, evaluate, and refine graph models over time. As graphs are inherently dynamic, with new nodes, edges, and patterns emerging, a robust monitoring framework ensures that the models remain relevant, accurate, and scalable in the face of change.

The monitoring and tracking of deployed machine learning is a critical part of the cycle of developing AI-powered solutions, as shown in Figure 11-1, as it assesses how good the deployed models are in tackling real-world data. It also detects when the deployed models face difficulties in terms of both predictive accuracy and runtime performance. Monitoring involves tracking system performance, detecting anomalies, and assessing the stability of the graph structures and embeddings. It enables practitioners to identify when models start to drift—whether due to shifts in underlying data distributions, changing graph topologies, or evolving user behavior. Complementing monitoring, feedback loops introduce a mechanism for continuous improvement by leveraging insights from monitored metrics, user interactions, or system behavior in order to refine the models and processes. Together, these two components form the backbone of a self-sustaining ...
