8 Other Opportunities for Consultation in Schools
In addition to individual case consultation and workshops, there are several other opportunities for school counselors to use their consultative skills to affect the well-being of students. These require the counselor’s continued use of a problem-solving framework supported by a respectful, encouraging relationship, and the use of effective communication skills.
Parent–Teacher–Counselor Conferences
One of the most obvious ways to consult is through the parent–teacher–counselor conference. The counselor’s input is invaluable in a parent–teacher conference. You may have talked with the student individually and have insight that the teacher does not possess. You can connect your information with that of the parent and the teacher.
