Chapter 8. Measuring Performance
Secure Shell has greater resource usage than its insecure counterparts. It consumes more processor time and bandwidth than a corresponding Berkeley r-protocol connection. For a limited number of connections, such as a single-system administrator connection, the additional resource consumption is not an issue. Performance can become a problem, however, when a large number of connections must be sustained.
The performance measurements presented here are relative to the equipment and software used to generate them. See “Performance Test Methodology” on page 155 for the details.
