Abstract

Robots have widespread use in homes, health care, traffic management, law enforcement, and military applications, to name a few. We utilize robots to perform daily repetitive, monotonous tasks too dangerous tasks. However, consumer robotics plays a significant role in everyday life and also becoming a flourishing business. From utility robots, such as cleaning and lawn mowing robots, to entertainment robots, such as pet and toy robots, consumer robotics will be the next wave of the robotic business. The present paper discusses the state-of-the-art development of consumer robots, different types of consumer robots that are commercialised and the future trends of consumer robotics.

19.1 Introduction

Consumer robots and robotic gadgets are designed for everyday use, usually in a household or personal setting. Many of them are made for mundane tasks like cleaning or carrying bags, lawn mowing, and entertainment.
