SharePoint Central Administration Overview

Once SharePoint is installed and configure, now may be a good time to look at the Central Administration Interface available in SharePoint 2010. This lesson provides a general overview of Central Administration. This overview includes discussions on how to navigate and use the Central Administration Interface, managing and maintaining a SharePoint site, and important Business Intelligence SharePoint services.

WHAT IS CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION?

SharePoint Central Administration is the interface that should be used by administrators to perform several common tasks. You can access it by clicking Start images All Programs Microsoft SharePoint Products images SharePoint 2010 Central Administration. On the Central Administration homepage you see that all tasks are divided into eight categories, as shown in Figure 3-1.

Directly beneath each category title are additional links to more commonly needed tasks. The categorization of the tasks makes it easier for administrators to perform common day-to-day setup and configurations.
