The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States defines Smart Manufacturing systems as “fully–integrated, collaborative manufacturing systems that responds in real-time to meet changing demands and conditions in the factory, in the supply-chain network, and in the customer needs.” Smart Manufacturing is an ecosystem that enables factories, warehouses, and supply-chains to be fully integrated and agile to fulfill customer demand for products or services. Sometimes, these activities are labeled as “Industry 4.0” or “Digital Transformation.”
