The photo-sharing service Flickr has been around for more than a decade (an eternity in Internet years). Although newer photo-sharing services (such as Instagram) have gotten more attention in recent years, the addition of a number of new features is making Flickr relevant again, including a redesign of the entire Flickr experience and adding a free terabyte (TB) of online storage space for each user.
Among the design options (shown in Figure 11-1), Flickr offers you a large profile photo (a buddy icon) and a customizable cover image at the top of your profile. A photostream also streams your photos as well as those of your Flickr friends, depending on which page you’re viewing.
Flickr’s changed design options have met with mixed reviews. Some users seem pleased with the new options, especially the increased hard drive space, and many people have found creative ways to decorate their profiles.
