24.1 INTRODUCTION
A pavement is the main structure of a road or a runway, which is relatively a stable layer or a crust constructed over the natural soil. The natural soil is called a subgrade. The main function of a pavement is to support and distribute the wheel loads of vehicles through the underlying layer to the subgrade.
