Chapter 24. Establishing Client Best Practice

Many of the ways end users will use the Workgroup PDM (Product Data Management) software depend on how the Administrator has set it up. As the implementer, you may choose to train your users after you have completed the implementation. You will probably need a four-hour session to teach users how to use the software the way you have set it up. You can use some concepts from this chapter to help build your training material.

In this chapter, I cover concepts that all users should be able to take advantage of, such as the best ways to get the most out of Workgroup PDM, including local setup that end users can control. I also aim to help users avoid some of the common mistakes that allow for local file management problems, and provide some file management troubleshooting skills. If you can recognize some common problems when they happen, you can avoid using incorrect data you may receive at those times.

Accessing the Workgroup PDM User Interface

Workgroup PDM is an easy-to-use document version manager for SolidWorks files and general documents. The user interface consists of the vault view and local view windows, a small toolbar, and the right mouse button (RMB) menu.
