Introduction

Backgrounds are an important part of sound effects. They are the general ambience sounds that are added to the sound mix to give the location realism. Backgrounds are also referred to as BGs, ambiences or atmospheres. They are not room tone. Room tone is the sound of the location or set from the production recordings.
