Using Menus and Dialog Boxes

Every properly designed Windows application operates in a similar way. As you will learn, you can move and resize all windows the same way in every Windows application. You can also execute commands the same way in all Windows applications.

You can choose a command from a menu by using the mouse or the keyboard (also, many time-saving shortcuts exist for choosing commands). If a command requires information from you before executing, a dialog box appears when you choose the command. In the dialog box, you use the mouse or the keyboard to choose options or enter values that control the command.
