Now that you understand the basics of servlets and Java Server Pages, it's time to take a step back and see how these two technologies fit in with the overall structure of an application. Even if you only work on the Web portion of an application, you are still affected by the overall architecture. After all, the architecture defines how and when you access data and what business logic functions you can perform. You can make better decisions if you understand their ramifications beyond the portion you are working on.
